Nowadays, many people from America to Asia, practice Meditation in a regular basis.
Transcendence Meditation Practice is continuously increasing its reach through various online platforms or online courses via the internet, and through immersion experiences. However, even though, Meditation Practice is largely acceptable, there are some reasons why others are still skeptical or do not practice neither believe in this.
"The mind is like a drunk monkey always jumping from tree to tree"
As we can notice, people have so much out-to-date beliefs about Meditation.
First of all, many of them think they should clear their mind of all conscious thoughts in order to meditate, and get trap into the myth of meditation applies to our modern world. See, we are surrounding by so much distractions with the evolution of the internet, our daily activities, and so on, we are always in a rush to go to work, and we do not have enough time out there to spend 2 hours or more trying to clear our mind as generally done by the Monks. As quoted by an old Chinese: "The mind is like a drunk monkey always jumping from tree to tree".Do not bother yourself trying to stop your mind to think.
Could you stop your heart to beat for an hour? Obviously the answer is "No".
Secondly, sometimes, people get stuck because they get bored in practicing meditation, or they often fall asleep or at least face some challenges to stay focus or do not know how to begin and enter into a state of meditation. All of these ideas come from outdated or bad beliefs about Meditation. Before we dive deeper into this topic, let's me first explain what is a level of mind.
There are four (4) different levels of mind (literally kind of electrical energy) produced by our brain.
BETA WAVE For instance, when you are wide awake or doing conscious activities and achieving daily works, you are in beta (14 - 21 wave) level of mind because you are conscious of what is going on around you or happening to you. As example, if your feet hit a rock on the road, we automatically be aware of the pain.
ALPHA WAVE When you are daydreaming, or just going to sleep but not quite there yet, or just awakening but not yet awake, you are experiencing Alpha (7 - 14 wave) level of mind which is literally one of the brain-wave patterns.
THETA - DELTA When you are completely and fully sleeping. Furthermore, meditation level of mind is a state of deep relaxation, deeper than in sleep itself but accompanied by a special kind of awareness that combined Alpha + Theta or Delta.
As it turns, our mind consists of 10% of Consciousness and 90% of Sub-Consciousness. This means one part of the mind is processing information on an autopilot mode. We are not aware of this because we are not trained to control over the Sub-Conscious.
Let's doing quick exercises:
Exercise 1
Sit down on a chair. Then lean your feet on the ground. Focus your attention to your feet. What did you feel? Now what if you are laid down in your bed, what did you feel?
Exercise 2
Redirect your awareness (Attention) on your breathing. Now, let's focus on the fresh air which goes in and out your nose at least for 2 or 3 minutes, what did you notice? Have you noticed this before that little exercise? What did you notice this by now?
Conclusion: It's barely because you put on attention and focus on your awareness
In fact, your breathing was in autopilot which is operated by the Sub-Conscious. Hence, there are some functions of your brain system which are operated in autopilot by the Sub-Conscious of the mind. This is why Meditation can be very useful tool to control our mind.
As said Jose Silva, a legend of "Mind Control":"You are now setting out on one of the most transforming adventures of your life. Each result you achieve will change your view of yourself and of the world you were born into. With the new powers will come a responsibility to use them for the betterment of mankind. You cannot use them otherwise, as you are about to learn."
Types of Meditation
There are many different meditation disciplines out there based on Passive Meditation and Active or Dynamic Meditation, you merely have to find the one perfectly adapted to your needs. Passive meditation is about reaching a special level of mind as an end itself by calming the mind of all conscious thoughts combined with breathing techniques. This produces a pleasure calm and goes a long way toward relieving and preventing illnesses caused by tension and stress. Active or dynamic meditation uses instead meditation level of mind for solving problems with various techniques such as visualization, projection, compassion and Loving-Kindness energy, forgiveness, and so on. However, those two types of meditation can be mixed to produce more results.
